what We Believe

At Woodlawn Christian Church we strive to live out the word of God.

Therefore the following beliefs are integral to our teachings here at Woodlawn Christian Church.

We believe that the Bible is the infallible record of God’s search for man.  In the beginning, God created man in His own image, but man fell from his perfect state when he chose to rebel against the Creator and exert his own will over the will of his Heavenly Father.  Thus he broke the law of God and separated himself from the one who will not allow rebellion into His presence.  This is the problem of sin, and the reason that we are condemned to an eternal punishment.

God, however, loves His creation, and was not willing that we should perish.  Therefore He sent His Son in the person of Jesus of Nazareth as the Messiah that would take away the sin of those who would live in faith and obedience to Him.  This was accomplished by the sacrifice of Jesus’ life at the hands of Jewish and Roman officials who crucified Him as a criminal.  Because of this offering, now the followers of Jesus have a hope both in this life and beyond.

This is not accomplished, however, beyond any effort on our part.  We understand from scripture that God has foreordained a plan for man’s acceptance of the forgiveness He offers.  This includes faith in the Son, repentance from the life of rebellion and selfishness and a decision to live for Him, confession of that belief and life change, and baptism by immersion.  After that the Christian should grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Finally, we believe that our God is a good and loving Father, that He knows us all, and that He loves each one of us as if there were only one of us.  He cares for His children and has promised that for those who love the Lord and are called according to His purpose, that all things will eventually work together for our good and the good of His kingdom.
